Who is the man the chamber was named after?
He was Taslim Olawale Elias, he was a Nigerian Jurist who was born in 11 November 1914 and died on the 14 August 1991. He was an Attorney General and chief Justice of Nigeria, as well as a Judge and President of the International Court of Justice.
He achieved so much during his lifetime and that’s why he is worthy of having a student chamber named after him. He was a lecturer at some point of his life. He lectured at the Universities of Aligarh, Allahabad, Bombay and Calcutta. He was a publisher of books namely;
- MAKERS OF NIGERIAN LAW
- THE NATURE OF AFRICAN CUSTOMARY LAW
He was appointed for prestigious posts, some of which I have mentioned earlier. Some others are;
– The constitutional and legal adviser to the National council of Nigeria and the Cameron’s (NCNC)
-He was one of the architect of Nigeria’s Independence Constitution.
The climax and most relevant appointment he achieved to US, was his appointment as a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos in 1966. He achieved so much, it’s almost impossible to put it all down in words We appreciate him for who he was, all he achieved and the path he set for young ones after him to follow. He will forever be OUR MENTOR!
